Noetic - from the Greek referring to intellect, to realization and insight.
I came across the term „noetic“ in a text on neurology, where it described insight that is
attained through intensive perception (with all the senses) of the entire object or topic.
As a respectful and empathetic alternative to the scalpel and microscope.
... "Noetic handicraft" is the term the artist uses for her series based on noesis, a kind of
applied logic, according to which insight is based not only on correct thinking, but also on true
perception.
And perhaps the largely meditative involvement with the small elements of nature also contains
a potential for insight into questions that cannot be resolved intellectually, like those koans
given to students to contemplate in Zen schools.
If we consider those mysteries of nature which science cannot study and answer, this meditative work with matter, and perhaps also the corresponding art view might be a possible way of arriving at an insight beyond the level of logical statements.
